What can I say? I got my dad’s green thumb. He worked in the yard from Spring through Fall, so I used to hang out with him in his gardens. I learned about soil, which plants come up perennially and where they like to live, how to trim a shrub and how to use color in planning gardens. When I had my own yard, I took bare-bones minimum and made it lush and fertile. I appreciated hard work for the first time in my life and love sleeping after a back-breaking day planting or laying stone to outline a new garden.
